Designer, danny Louten was born and bred in Augusta, Maine.
danny became passionate about design in the early nineties as a high school
grom. His first Mac had a 4-inch screen with a handheld scanner, working with
Aldus before Adobe. He also dabbled in 35mm photography and running duplicator
presses making first primitive impressions in the industry.
A few years later, danny decided to make a move to San Diego, where he entered
the publishing world and learned to surf. danny and a gang of designers worked
mostly on brand identity for the Beach and Bay Press in Pacific Beach. While
he was out of the office, he would venture to LA and Mexico to embrace the art
and typographic styles of the southwest.
danny returned home to Maine, obtained a B.F.A from The Maine College of Art,
and became a driving creative force for a local mag, Portland Magazine where
he designed and took on photo assignments. His years at Portland Magazine would
bring him into many different worlds from the living room of a Somali Refugee
to the backyard of contemporary American realist painter, Jamie Wyeth.
He later moved to make an even bigger impact as the Art Director and designer
for the national action sports lifestyle magazine, N'East Magazine (neastmag.com.)
His solo design work encompassed nine issues of the magazine over the last two
years. danny had the chance to create a network of writers, photogs, and artists
all over the country. He also had the opportunity to interview the King of Type,
danny's hero David Carson. N'East Magazine evolved tremendously and set the
stage for solid action sports from the Jersey Shore to Maine. N'East Magazine
has been referred to as "Rolling Stone on crack".
He has also been commissioned for poster lines by Guster Band member, Adam Gardner
of Reverb (reverbrock.org), and is currently designing the event program for
the September Belmar Pro surf contest. danny also moonlights as art director
for Carabasset Valley Academy. His work and style dually reflect his love for
the Southwest, as well as his Northeast roots. danny enjoys the simple things
in life, surf and snow, beans and rice, and is madly in-love with his wife Tamothy.
